Some have already gone home and don’t want to return to a clinical setting. Some are looking for a more personal, unhurried experience, or want the option of a meaningful ceremony. And some simply want the same provider from start to finish, rather than whoever happens to be on duty.

THE MAIN OPTIONS
Where a newborn circumcision can be done
- In the hospital before discharge. Performed by an OB or pediatrician, often in a separate room. Convenient if it fits your timing and insurance.
- At a pediatrician’s or urologist’s office. A clinic visit after you’ve gone home; you return to a medical office for the procedure.
- At a birth center. Some families who deliver at a birth center arrange circumcision there or with an affiliated provider.
- At home, by a certified mohel. A specialist comes to you. Your baby stays in your arms, the setting is calm and private, and a ceremony can be included if you wish.
- At home, by a visiting physician. Less common, but some physicians offer in-home visits.
For a healthy, full-term baby, each of these can be safe — the differences come down to setting, experience, personal attention, and whether your baby stays with you.

We believe in honesty over salesmanship. A hospital or specialist setting is the safer choice in some situations — for example, a premature or low-birth-weight baby still under close care, a medical or anatomical concern that needs a specialist, or a physician’s recommendation that the procedure be done clinically.
