IN-HOME NEWBORN CIRCUMCISION
In-Home Newborn Circumcision
A calm, private, and professional circumcision for your newborn son — performed gently in your own home, with your baby comfortable and in your arms the entire time.
OVERVIEW
What is an in-home circumcision?
An in-home newborn circumcision is a circumcision performed at your home by an experienced, certified provider, rather than in a hospital or clinic. Your baby stays with you the whole time, in a familiar, private setting, with the same sterile, professional standards you would expect in a medical office.
For many families, the appeal is simple: less stress, no separation, no waiting rooms, and unhurried, personal attention. The procedure is performed personally by Rabbi Tzvi Fischer, who brings everything needed for a clean, careful, and gentle experience — and stays to make sure both you and your baby are comfortable before leaving.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What happens, step by step
- Arrival and greeting. We arrive at your scheduled time and take a moment to put you at ease.
- Review and questions. We confirm your baby is well, review the process, and answer every question — nothing begins until you feel ready.
- Gentle preparation. We set up a clean, sterile work area and position your baby comfortably and securely.
- Numbing. A local numbing agent is applied to minimize discomfort.
- The procedure. Using a proven, established technique, the circumcision itself takes only a minute or two.
- Comfort. Your baby is soothed and returned to your arms right away.
- Aftercare walkthrough. We explain exactly how to care for the area, what is normal, and how to reach us during healing.
TIMING
How long does it take?
The circumcision itself takes only a minute or two. The full visit usually lasts about 45 to 60 minutes — time for your questions, gentle preparation, the procedure, and a complete aftercare walkthrough. We never rush, and your baby is back in your arms within moments of the procedure.
TOOLS & STERILITY
The instruments and our sterile setup
We use a proven, established surgical technique with sterile, professional-grade instruments — the same standard of care used in a clinical setting, brought to your home. Everything that touches your baby is sterile, and single-use supplies are used wherever possible and disposed of safely.
We bring everything needed for the procedure, including:
- Sterile surgical instruments and a clean, prepared work surface
- A local numbing agent for comfort
- Sterile dressings and aftercare supplies
- Everything required to leave the area clean and protected
If you have questions about the specific technique used, we will walk you through it during your consultation.
COMFORT
How we keep your baby comfortable
Your baby’s comfort guides everything we do. We apply a local numbing agent, work quickly and precisely, and keep your baby gently swaddled and soothed throughout. Many parents choose to hold and comfort their baby immediately afterward. Most babies cry briefly — more from being held still than from pain — and settle quickly once back in your arms.
SAFETY & SUITABILITY
Safety, age, and who it's for
The ideal window for a newborn circumcision is generally the first one to four weeks of life, though it can often be performed a little later. Babies who were born prematurely or at a low birth weight may need to wait until they have grown and are ready.
During your free consultation we review your baby’s specific situation. If an in-home circumcision is not the safest choice — for example, certain medical or anatomical conditions, or specific bleeding-risk considerations — we will tell you honestly and help you understand your options. Your son’s safety always comes first.
This page provides general educational information and is not a substitute for individualized medical advice. Please discuss your baby’s specific circumstances with your pediatrician.

Common questions
Vitamin K helps a newborn’s blood clot, and it is given to reduce the risk of bleeding. Because this matters for any procedure, we will discuss your baby’s vitamin K status during the consultation and advise you honestly on what is safest for your situation.
Yes. Many families like to be nearby, and you are welcome to hold and comfort your baby immediately afterward. It is entirely your choice.
Often within the first one to four weeks, once your baby is healthy and feeding well. We confirm the right timing for your baby during the consultation.
Very little. We bring the medical supplies; you will just need a clean, well-lit space and a few everyday items like diapers and swaddle blankets, which we will list for you ahead of time.
