Your In-Home Circumcision Visit, Step by Step
Knowing exactly how the day will unfold takes the worry out of it. Here’s what the whole experience looks like, from your first conversation to your baby’s full healing — calm, unhurried, and entirely in your home.
Before the visit: your free consultation
Everything starts with a relaxed, no-pressure consultation. We answer every question, review your baby’s health and timing, and explain exactly how the procedure works. This is also where we discuss details like the best age (usually the first one to four weeks), your baby’s vitamin K status, and whether you’d like a simple medical circumcision or a traditional bris with blessings and a baby naming. By the time we schedule a visit, you’ll know precisely what to expect and feel ready.
The day of: arrival and setup
Rabbi Fischer arrives at your scheduled time and takes a few minutes to put everyone at ease. He confirms your baby is well, answers any last questions, and sets up a clean, sterile work area on a surface you’ve prepared — often a kitchen or dining table with good light. There’s no rushing; nothing begins until you feel comfortable and ready.
The procedure itself
A local numbing agent is applied for comfort, and your baby is positioned gently and securely. Using a proven, established technique, the circumcision itself takes only a minute or two. Your baby is kept swaddled and soothed throughout. Many parents are surprised by how quick and calm it is — some babies barely stir. Right afterward
Your baby goes straight back into your arms and can be fed and comforted immediately — one of the biggest advantages of staying home. Before leaving, Rabbi Fischer walks you through aftercare step by step, makes sure your baby is settled, and leaves you with clear written instructions and a direct way to reach him. The whole visit typically lasts about 45 to 60 minutes.
The days after: healing and support
Most newborns heal within about seven to ten days with simple, gentle care. Mild swelling and a small amount of spotting are normal at first. You’re never on your own during this time — you have a direct line to us for any question, plus a follow-up check-in to confirm healing is on track.
