Greater Cleveland is a serious medical city — MetroHealth, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Cleveland Clinic Fairview all deliver babies — and it also has one of the strongest community birth-worker networks in Ohio, including organizations founded specifically to improve outcomes for Black families.
Families who birth at home here meet the same obstacle as everywhere else: a hospital will generally not circumcise a baby it did not deliver, and a midwife does not perform circumcisions, because it sits outside midwifery scope of practice. Neither is refusing you anything; the system simply assumes this happens before a discharge you never had.
Cleveland is a planned trip for us rather than a same-week one, so reach out early — particularly for an eighth-day bris, where the date cannot move. Travel is quoted upfront before you commit.
