West Michigan has one of the strongest midwifery and home-birth cultures in the state. Two things to raise before you book
Vitamin K. Babies born in hospital are routinely offered a vitamin K injection, which supports clotting in the first weeks of life. Families birthing at home sometimes decline it or choose an oral protocol. It bears directly on any procedure involving bleeding, so a careful provider will ask about it and talk it through rather than either brushing it aside or refusing outright. Be wary of one who does neither.
A newborn examination. Your son should have had one before a circumcision. Anatomical findings such as hypospadias are a reason not to proceed, because the foreskin may be needed for a later repair.
$980 professional fee, plus travel expenses
Consultation, the in-home visit anywhere in the Grand Rapids area, sterile setup, the procedure, and full aftercare support. Travel reflects the cross-state drive and is quoted upfront, before you decide anything.

Do you really travel to Grand Rapids from the Detroit area?
Yes, regularly. It is about two and a half hours each way, which is why we ask West Michigan families to give us dates early rather than late, and why travel sits higher in the quote than it would for a Detroit-area family. You will have the full figure before you commit.
Our baby was born at home with a West Michigan midwife. Can you still do the circumcision?
Yes, and it is the most common reason Grand Rapids families call us. Your midwife's care and ours are entirely compatible. We come to your home once your son is healthy, feeding well, and you are ready.
Can you perform a bris in Grand Rapids?
Yes. Rabbi Fischer performs traditional brisim with the blessings and a baby naming, as well as medical circumcisions with no religious element, for families of all backgrounds. An eighth-day bris in West Michigan needs earlier notice than one closer to Detroit, so call as soon as you know.
How soon after birth can the circumcision be done?
Often within the first one to four weeks, once your baby is healthy and feeding well. We confirm the right timing during your free consultation.
