Indiana's out-of-hospital birth options are growing, but unevenly. Matriarch Birth Center in Carmel is Hamilton County's first freestanding birth center, staffed by certified nurse-midwives. In Lafayette, a local nonprofit is still working to open an accredited freestanding birth center. Across much of the rest of the state, families who want an out-of-hospital birth work with home-birth midwives.
For all of those families, the circumcision question is the one nobody warns you about: hospitals generally will not perform one on a baby they did not deliver. Coming to your home makes that a non-issue.

Do you serve my Indiana city?
We come to families across Indiana, including Indianapolis, Carmel and Hamilton County, Fort Wayne, South Bend and Michiana, Evansville, Bloomington and Lafayette, plus the surrounding communities. Tell us where you are and we'll confirm availability.
Our baby was born at a birth center or at home. Can you still do the circumcision?
Yes — and in Indiana it comes up often, because so many families birth with home midwives. Your midwife's care and ours are compatible; we come once your baby is healthy and feeding well.
Can you perform a bris in Indiana?
Yes. Rabbi Fischer performs traditional brisim with blessings and a baby naming, as well as simple medical circumcisions, for families of every background. More on a bris in Indiana.
How soon after birth can the circumcision be done?
Usually within the first one to four weeks, once your baby is healthy and feeding well; a bris is held on the eighth day. We'll confirm the right timing during your free consultation.
