Michigan is home. Rabbi Tzvi Fischer and his family live in the Detroit area, and Michigan families were the first this practice served — which means shorter travel, easier scheduling, and often more flexibility on timing than anywhere else we work.
We come to families across four distinct parts of the state: the southeast Michigan metro, West Michigan along the lakeshore, the mid-Michigan corridor, and northern Michigan around Grand Traverse Bay. BORN OUTSIDE A HOSPITAL
Michigan families who birth at home or at a birth center
Not every Michigan baby is born in a hospital, and families who plan a home birth or a birth-center birth often find the circumcision question harder to answer than they expected. Most hospitals will not perform one on a baby who was not born there, and the practices that will can mean a wait, a drive, and an unfamiliar room.
That is exactly the gap we exist to fill. Across the twelve Michigan cities we serve, we keep a directory of 86 local birth professionals — hospital and freestanding birth centers, nurse-midwives and home-birth midwives, and 46 doulas — on each city's page, so you can find support near you whether or not you ever book with us.
Michigan's out-of-hospital birth community has grown noticeably in recent years. Birth Detroit, for instance, is Detroit's first freestanding community birth center, a Black-led midwifery practice serving families in the city. West Michigan and the Lansing area both support established home-birth midwifery practices. If your son arrives outside a hospital, you do not have to give up on a calm, unhurried circumcision — we come to you.

Our baby was born at home with a midwife. Can you still do the circumcision?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons Michigan families call us. Your midwife's care and ours are entirely compatible; we simply come to your home once your baby is healthy, feeding well, and you are ready.
Can you perform a bris in Michigan?
Yes. Rabbi Fischer performs traditional brisim with the blessings and a baby naming, as well as simple medical circumcisions, for families of all backgrounds and faiths. More on a bris in Michigan.
How soon after birth can the circumcision be done?
Usually within the first one to four weeks, once your baby is healthy and feeding well. A bris is held on the eighth day. We'll confirm the right timing for your son during your free consultation.
